Same Print, Different Price: Why Fabric Matters More Than You Think

A few days ago, a customer asked us the price of one of our bedsheets.

After a while, they shared a screenshot of a bedsheet they had found on Amazon and asked a very reasonable question:

“This looks almost the same, but it’s available at nearly half the price. Why?”

And that question made us realise something.

When we shop for bedsheets online, most of us naturally compare what we can see — the print, colour, size and price.

If two bedsheets look almost identical, paying significantly more for one can seem unnecessary.

But there is one important detail a photograph cannot always show:

What is the bedsheet actually made of?

Same Print Does Not Mean Same Bedsheet

Imagine the same floral print on two bedsheets.

One is made using a mixed or blended fabric.

The other is made from 100% pure percale cotton.

On your phone screen, the difference may be difficult to notice. The colours may look similar. The print may look similar. Even the overall styling may look almost identical.

But the fabric underneath that print changes the experience of using the bedsheet.

That is why comparing bedsheets only by photographs can sometimes be misleading.

What Is Percale Cotton?

Percale isn't a print or a design. It refers to the way the fabric is woven.

A percale weave creates a clean, crisp and breathable fabric with a characteristic matte finish.

When the material itself is pure cotton, you get the natural qualities people generally look for in cotton bedding — particularly breathability and a comfortable feel against the skin.

It may not be something you immediately understand from an Instagram photograph or marketplace thumbnail.

You experience it when you actually sleep on it.

What About Mixed Fabrics?

Mixed fabrics are not automatically “bad.”

They can serve a different customer requirement and can often be offered at a different price point.

The important thing is knowing what you are buying.

If one bedsheet is pure cotton and another contains a blend, comparing only their prints and prices doesn't give you the complete picture.

It's a little like comparing two garments that look identical in photographs without checking what fabric they're made from.

The design might be similar.

The material isn't necessarily the same.

Before Comparing Prices, Compare These Things

Next time two bedsheets look similar but have very different prices, take another minute before deciding.

Check:

Fabric composition: Is it 100% cotton or a blend?

Type of weave: Is the fabric percale or another construction?

Actual dimensions: Are both bedsheets genuinely the same size?

Pillow covers: How many are included and what are their dimensions?

Print technique: Is it hand block printed, screen printed, digitally printed or another technique?

Product construction and finishing: Small differences in stitching and finishing may not always be obvious in a photograph.

Once these details are compared, you have a much better basis for understanding the price difference.

Why We Choose Pure Percale Cotton at Bichhavans

At Bichhavans, we love beautiful prints.

But we don't believe a bedsheet should be chosen only because it photographs beautifully.

It is something your skin stays in contact with for hours every night.

That's why, for our percale bedding, we choose 100% pure cotton percale — with a focus on breathability,

comfort and the everyday experience of sleeping on natural fabric.

We also believe customers should know what they are paying for.

We're not saying that the most expensive bedsheet is automatically the best choice.

We're saying something much simpler:

Don't compare the price until you've compared the product.

Because two bedsheets can carry a remarkably similar print and still be two very different products.

Same print can create the look.

The fabric creates the experience.
